Notes from a Farm Life: Day One

We moved into the new house yesterday. We love it and we are so happy!

We have "free-range" chickens now, which is to say, we have a little bantam rooster and hen that came with the property, and the rooster kicked Grandma Jane when she tried to get him back in his pen. He's a little feisty.

James named the rooster "Turkey" and the hen "Chicken."

We have a bull that lives right behind our property (so, just to clarify, not actually our bull) who moos a lot. Loudly. It's funny. I think I'll call him Big Business. :)

We have no internet out there right now so I'm in the old house typing this and Ben hasn't had internet access in 48 hours so he's about to pass out if I don't let him have a turn now.

Fin.

P.S.

He named his pillow Mork.

I have no idea why. He has never heard of any famous aliens or anything...he's just cute and creative! And he loves his pillow.

Creativity

James and I just picked up a new Thomas the Tank Engine game at a garage sale this weekend. It's a matching game, with little boards and then cards that match the pictures on the boards. James stepped on the box, and I began to explain to him how you have to be very gentle to these boards, they're made of cardboard and they're breakable, you can't bend or fold them or anything, etc.

After this nice little explanatory discussion, James immediately wanted to chat about something else on HIS agenda--I think it was fire trucks. So I said, "James, did you hear what I just said?"

He looked at me and said, "Um..."

So I held up one of the cardboard playing boards and said, "This is...," thinking an appropriate answer would be "Breakable."

He said, "Sausage!"

Thus, again, my not-yet-three-year-old helps me remember not to take life quite so seriously, and sometimes, to just stop and smell the sausages.

God, I love being his mommy.

I'm...

...currently proving, yet again, that you really can waste your child's entire naptime by browsing through blogs and staring at cute baby pictures instead of doing ANYTHING that even remotely resembles productivity, not to mention all the crap around here that needs to get done. I am so tired.

Yet the naptime, not so much. Why is that? I could fall asleep typing, except that I can't, because I have to go wake my child up now so he'll go to sleep tonight. D'oh!

post-script: I was so out of it (AM so out of it?) that I originally posted this on the wrong blog. Ha!

Hi

We're closing on May 29. Life is still crazy. (When is it not?)

I promise eventually I'll be back and maybe even with photos. But Ben was gone all week last week on Vortex 2 and I am wiped out and have sooooooo much left to do.

Love to all~

Special Delivery

I am so out of it these days. Things are going crazy around here with the house-buying and the Ben-traveling and the James-growing and the me-being-supremely-exhausted that I can't usually string together a complete sentence.

Thus, here's James delivering a message: Happy Mother's Day to all you moms and grandmas out there. You make the world an awesome place. We love you.

Look! A picture!

I have no idea what the heck these two are doing, but it sure is cute.

That's all I've got for now.
