Tick Tutorial

Give me your thoughts on ticks.

Why do we have them in our yard? LOTS of them in our yard. Is there something we can do to reduce their population?

How do you get your kids to agree to a tick check without freaking them out? Or is it just my son who freaks out a little bit at anything out of the ordinary?

What's the deal with "just pull them out so they don't regurgitate?" I thought if you pulled them out there was something to worry about too, like it leaves their little fangy head in and then that itches and spreads bacteria or something.

And finally, how do you keep the anxiety level down about all the diseases and just let your kids play? I had ticks when I was a kid and it seemed like no big deal. And probably it's not. But seriously....some ticks are more scary than others. And you can't really differentiate. Ya know?

Ticks.....ICK!

You need to get yourself some Guineafowl. They consume mass quantities of ticks. Just 2 birds can clear 2 acres in a single year.
Name them Moose and Bowser and Ben might not notice the difference!

you can put down seven dust... don't breath it (wear a mask) bc it'll hurt the heck out of your lungs but it'll kill all the ticks. in like a day. also you can pull them out- i do, and i have heard that their head will stay in but i've never seen it happen. and i've had a lot of ticks and last summer while we were camping i even pulled ticks out of henry as a 4 month old babe. they are icky creatures though huh? do a freckle check on james- that works for stella- i tell her we are looking to see if she grew any new freckles bc she has been eating and sleeping and growing so fast. she ALWAYS finds a new freckle to show off and i get to see her body in full detail.

I hate ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes! I thought that was all I had to put up with, until I saw a GIANT RAT running around in the backyard after that last rain. I Googled "rats in backyard," and was able to order some rat-repelling powder to sprinkle around the yard, with a 60-day guarantee, for $20 including s/h. Also, it's harmless to pets and children. Maybe there is something similar for ticks. Good luck, and remember to wear long pants and long sleeves. I'm still shuddering from my one tick that time in Sayre. so gross!
